curiosity drives him, really. it seems that in the process of everything, she had really been something of someone else's making: expectations, her husband, her brother, the Targaryen legacy, the rage against the Baratheons, the fight for the crown of Westeros, her duty as a queen, as a ruler, and as a conqueror.
aside from the person that everyone else wanted her to be, he wondered what she would have of herself. ]
Daenerys. Not a queen, or a road to ruin. Nothing like that. Those are things you are, but it's not all you are. Gods have to be roles, mortals do not. There are always demands being made of us. Be this or do that- make yourself something. When you do, sometimes those same people don't like what you've become. Everyone has their own self interests in the play for peace.
[ he pauses. once upon a time, he did, too. ]
Ah- tell me something about yourself. Not about the queen, or the ruler. I want to know about Daenerys.
[ He calls her by her name, and she stiffens. He is too familiar. Jorah had called her Daenerys, more than once--but he had wanted her for his bed, not for a friend. Daario had called her that, but it was the dragon queen he truly spoke to, not to her. Here, she has been Highness and Majesty and Lady to everyone she's met, save for one person--and he had not asked her anything half so intrusive.
In the end, she responds because no one has ever spoken her thus. And when she does, the words are reflective of a past she feels is lost to her, one that cannot be used against her. It's a small allowance for now, no more. However much she might wish for a friend to confide in, she remembers betrayal, and how she had wept to know its sting. ]
When I was a little girl, I wished to sail the sea. I wanted to go away and fly like a dragon upon the waves, and make my adventures into songs and stories.

there was never much considered above or below him, being both of the divine and the Asgardian royal family. humility was not one of his strong points. ]
Sounds romantic. Tales & stories always had a sort of magic to them. [ like she hasn't already made herself a myth. ] I can't turn you into a song, but we can do something close to flying. It'll be fun. :)
[ She doesn't trust the smile. However useful text may prove when she cannot hold audience, it would be too easy to make the friendly symbol when the sentiment were otherwise.
But she is curious. ]
By what means?
[ She had been whole, flying upon Drogon's back. Whole, and happy, and where she was meant to be. She will never forgive ALASTAIR for taking that away from her. ]
[ Her inclination is to defer to her responsibilities--but then she remembers that here, she has only her whims to follow. The habits of a queen die hard. ]
Shall I choose when this meeting might be, or will I take a god from his duties?
[ Hers aren't much better, perched atop a rocky ledge to watch the sea and puzzle over what precious little she's gleaned from the talk at the marketplace. She misses having Jorah to speak with of such things, but she has been so long gone from everyone she knows that now she almost misses the Shavepate's glowering face. ]
Drogon says half a hundred fish await in the hall to petition me. [ He flies over what must be at least ten sharks below, but Drogon has never been afraid of humans. Why should he fear sharks? ]
If I spear one of them, perhaps they might be persuaded to return on the morrow.
[ In other words, she's doing nothing important right now. ]
It's as good of an excuse as any to play hooky. [ ha ha ha. ha ha ha ha, Loki.
even if she was doing something important, he was sure that he could convince her to do otherwise. he was good at making other pastures sound greener, even if it wasn't necessarily the best idea.
it made him fun, but it also made him dangerous. ]
